Here are some watering tips for Lucky Bamboo... Use room temperature drinking or distilled water. Do not use tap water. You may have been told or read that it is ok to use tap water if you have well water or if you don't have fluoride/chlorine in your water or if you let the water sit out all night. These things may or may not be true in your situation. You may have even been giving your Lucky Bamboo tap water for years with no apparent ill effects.I say...why even risk it? The quality and makeup of tap water changes from place to place and even year to year. Unless you want to get your water tested regularly, you won't know exactly what is in your tap water. The cumulative effects of using tap water can take a while to show on your Lucky Bamboo. By then it could have done damage that will be hard to undo. I contend that if you have been using tap water and your plant looks fine, your plant may even look better after moving to distilled or drinking water. Do not use cold or warm water. Lucky Bamboo do not like temperature shocks to the roots. Change the water weekly if you are growing in water. Also clean your rocks/marbles and the container every two weeks. There are many potential issues that are avoided by using clean water, clean rocks and a clean container. Don't let the water go below the roots. A water level that is about one inch above the root system will be fine. It can be hard to tell how far down the roots are in some arrangements so most people fill to just below the top of the rocks. Lucky Bamboo like a little misting every week or so. Again, use distilled or drinking water, not tap water. Watering Lucky Bamboo in soil requires a little more care....
